  1. Customer Service (store manager)

Hi Jeff, Thanks for your feedback. Our team was kind of suprised to get a 1-star review and a list of every possible negative, after exchanging over 35(!) files and graphics with you, to get your network installation working between Friday afternoon and Sunday on the Christmas holidays.

As explained to you already, we prefer to use email to document details of an installation and allow you to communicate with our actual developers and experts. If we used a call center, that would increase the price you pay and you may speak to someone overseas who has never sailed before.

We don’t agree with many of your other comments. This isn’t the place to go into detail about those, but briefly… When you finally followed the Quick Start instructions that come in the box, everything worked perfectly.

Similarly, as explained previously, the Air Link does support and process compass data if it is available on your network. No other customer has requested that be sent on wifi to smartphone apps, but we are continuing to add features based on demand with over-the-air updates. That is also why an internet connection is required once at first, to update the firmware to give you the latest features.

As also explained, there is no reason for the Air Link to relay boat speed on wifi to a smartphone app that can easily display boat speed already.

Finally, we have a really good Warranty & Return Policy (on menu at bottom of page). There is a 14-day return period for any reason. And as noted there, customers can arrange to have more time e.g. if they are not at their boat.

Glad it is working for you now. Happy sailing.

My experience with the Air Link 4 has been frustrating, especially with the challenges around installation, the lack of comprehensive functionality, and the difficulty with the return policy. Although tech support stuck with it, it took a long time and is email only. tech support whet down the wrong rabbit hole for 2 days trying to have nmea show up from my Raymarine SeaTalk NG system

Installation Challenges: The product required an internet connection for a firmware upgrade and restart, which wasn’t clear in the instructions. The lights flashing on the upper left are an indicator of the firmware upgrade process, which was important to get it working properly. To connect to a third-party app, you had to use port 56789 for a UDP connection.

Limited Functionality: The Air Link 4 only relays wind data and doesn’t support boat speed, compass heading, or other NMEA 2000 information. This is like a major limitationI was expecting a more comprehensive NMEA 2000-to-Wi-Fi relay device. It appears that the firmware doesn’t include all the necessary sentences for full NMEA 2000 support, which is a disappointment.

Return Policy Issues: The return policy was more restrictive than expected, I was told I could not return the product after 14 days.

Alternative Products: There are other NMEA 2000 to Wi-Fi relay products on the market, and many of them support more comprehensive features, such as boat speed and compass heading. While they may be a little more expensive, they might be a better alternative

Hello Tom Platt, Thanks for your feedback. As you know, we provided 3 prompt explanations to your emails about how to set up NMEA 2000 wiring with power connections. (And NMEA 0183 wiring can also be used, at little or no cost.) A recent SailTimer newsletter covered NMEA 2000 starter kits, including ordering links on Amazon, and this diagram showing the parts that come in a starter kit: https://www.sailtimermaps.com/NMEA2000diagram.gif. There is also further information in the FAQs at https://wi-rb.com/faq-airlink4/. So hopefully all will be well and you’ll have wireless data displayed in your GPS chartplotter, once you connect power to your Air Link. Our friendly Technical Support (info@SailTimer.co) is always available for any questions that come up.

Very vague with the power connections

  7. Nick J. (verified owner)

Not fitted yet but the product looks good and well made

  8. Peter Baulch (verified owner)

Greatly improved over the original design. Like the separate api. As I am waiting for the updated wi-rb I have not had a chance to connect airlink to the wi-rb.

  9. RICK S. (verified owner)

Good communication about this product and what it provides, and how it fits into the total wind package.
